In 1993 the reverse
design was slightly modified by moving the letters "AM"
in America closer together. Some examples were either
struck as test pieces or by accident dated 1992 with a
1993 reverse design known as 1992 "Close AM". Some of
the coins were struck at Philadelphia and a few others
at Denver. Currently both are really scarce with 2 or 3
examples known for the 92P and about 5 examples known
for the 92D. |

Sets. A few 1998S proof cents were accidentally struck
with business strike dies accidentally processed as
proof dies referred to as "Close AM" cents. The letters
"AM" of America will be almost touching on regular
business strike coins and spaced further apart on
regular issued proofs. This variety is very scarce
currently there are about 5 to 10 examples known.
