Notes:
A very rare date in Mint State, despite a nice, high mintage of over
1,000,000 coins. Apparently, most of these were melted, as none have
appeared in any of the hoards that came onto the market in the past
decades. In Mint State, the 1892-S is one of the great rarities of
the series, but some surprisingly nice examples exist. As rare as
this date is in Uncirculated condition, you can just about forget finding
one in Prooflike or Deep Mirror Prooflike condition (PCGS has graded only
5 Prooflikes and only a single MS-61 DMPL)! The finest examples
graded by PCGS are a single MS-68(!), 3 MS-63 Prooflikes, and the
afore-mentioned MS-61 Deep Mirror Prooflike.
