The 1880-CC Morgan Silver Dollar is scarce in Uncirculated condition,
but still readily obtainable, even in Gem condition. The typical
Uncirculated grade is MS-64. The finest examples graded by PCGS (including all varieties)
are 21 MS-67's, 6 MS-66
Prooflikes, and 2 MS-66 Deep Mirror Prooflikes.
Several varieties exist for
this date, including the following:
1880-CC, Second 8 over a high 7 (rare)
1880-CC, Second 8 over a low 7 (rare)
1880/79-CC, Reverse of 1878 (common)
1880-CC, Second 8 over 7, Reverse of 1878
(very scarce)
The finest "8/High7" examples graded by PCGS are 4 MS-67's, 4 MS-65
Prooflikes, and a single MS-66 Deep Mirror Prooflike.
The finest "8/Low 7" examples graded by PCGS are 9 MS-66's, a single MS-66 Prooflike, and a single MS-66 Deep Mirror
Prooflike.
