From Superior
Galleries' "Pre-Long Beach Sale", June 5-7, 2000, Lot 1588,
where it was described as follows:
"1798 Draped Bust Small
Eagle 15 Stars Bolender-2 XF45. Scarcer of the two small eagle
reverse 1798 dollars. This has excellent rims and edge letters and
is well centered on the obverse. The reverse, on the other hand, is
a trifle low, resulting in a lapse in the rim denticles below the
eagle. Fields and all devices are very choice for an Extremely Fine
bust dollar. Magnification reveals minor hairlines beneath the
toning, possibly pointing to long-ago cleaning.
B-2 is the only 1798 dollar with fifteen stars. The small eagle,
small letters reverse occurred previously on 1795 B-14, 1796 B-1,
B-2, and B-3, and 1797 B-2. This identical die was used for four
years, but always sparingly for small issues. Very rare." Price
Realized = $4,600.00
