1804 DRAPED BUST SILVER DOLLAR - Class I
The "Watters-Childs" Specimen

PCGS Proof-68 (illustrated above).  This remarkable coin sold on August 30, 1999 for the incredible sum of $4.14 million, easily beating the previous record by more than two times (interestingly enough, the former record for a single United States coin was $1.815 for the Stickney-Eliasberg 1804 Silver Dollar)!

The condensed pedigree for this coin is as follows:
U.S. Mint - Sultan of Muscat - C.A. Watters - Henry Chapman - Virgil Brand - Charles and Ruth Green - Charles Frederick Childs - the Pogue Family?

For a complete and expanded pedigree of this and all of the 1804 Silver Dollars, refer to Lot 458 of Auctions by Bowers and Merena, Inc.'s August 1999 sale catalog for the Walter H. Childs collection.
