Notes:
The first coin struck of this new type was presented by President
Theodore Roosevelt not to the designer but to Mr. Bigelow. Bigelow
was a friend of the President who may have proposed the idea of an incuse
design. He was also instrumental in engaging Bela Lyon Pratt to
execute the designs. Ron Guth examined the first strike coin and the
accompanying documentation circa May 2000; the coin was a lightly worn
example that showed no Proof qualities whatsoever.
The finest Uncirculated example graded by PCGS is a single MS-67.
The finest Proof examples graded by PCGS are 2 PR-67's.
