1835 HALF CENT - COHEN 1
Rarity: Common
Variety Equivalents: Breen 1,
Breen 1575
Notes:
The obverse die of this variety was also used on:
1835
Cohen 2
The reverse die of this
variety was also used earlier on:
1833 Cohen 1
1834 Cohen
1
The easiest way to tell the two 1835 varieties apart
is to look at the letters "ST" of STATES. On this
variety, the letters are farther apart than they appear on 1835
Cohen 2.
Die States:
Early die states of this variety show a trace of repunching at the right
base of the 8 in the date which disappears as the die wears. All
examples of this variety exhibit obverse clash marks. Die state
evidence indicates that this variety was struck after the 1835
Cohen 2.
