1802 HALF CENT - COHEN 2PCGS
No: 1057
Rarity: Scarce
Variety Equivalents: Breen 2,
Breen 1533
Notes:
The obverse die of this
variety was also used on:
1802 Cohen 1
This was the only use of
the reverse die.
All examples of this variety are overdates created when a small 2
was punched over the final 0 of a previously unused 1800 die. It
is believed that all 1802 Half Cents were struck on defective Large
Cents that were rolled-out and then cut down to the appropriate
size. Many examples of this variety show details of a Large Cent wherever
the striking pressures failed to obliterate them.
The finest Brown "1802 Rev." example graded by PCGS is a
single EF-40BN.
