Notes:
The 1843-O Eagle is fairly plentiful in circulated grades up through
Extremely Fine.
The grade seen most frequently is EF-45.
At the AU level, this date becomes scarce. Mint State examples are
extremely rare. PCGS has graded only four
Mint State 1843-O Eagles, the finest of which is a single MS-63. NGC
has graded four Mint State 1843-O Eagles, the finest of which is a single
MS-62.
In
August 2004, NGC published a partial population report of gold coins
recovered from the shipwrecked SS Republic. Included were 34
1843-O Eagles, ranging in grade from VF to MS-61.
