Notes:
The finest example graded by PCGS is a single MS-64.
In
August, 2004, NGC published a partial population report of gold coins
recovered from the shipwrecked SS Republic. Included were 178
1863-S Double Eagles, ranging in grade from AU-50 to MS-64. Three of
the coins were listed as "Large S" and 103 were listed as "Small S".
