The finest Proof
examples graded by PCGS are 2 PR-64's.
In
August, 2004, NGC published a partial population report of gold coins
recovered from the shipwrecked SS Republic. Included were 405
1861 Double Eagles, ranging in grade from EF-45 to MS-64. One of the
coins was listed as "Doubled 18", one was listed as "Curved Clip" and
eight were listed as MS-PL.
