In
August, 2004, NGC published a partial population report of gold coins
recovered from the shipwrecked SS Republic. Included were 56
1855-S Double Eagles, ranging in grade from EF-40 to MS-61. 10 of
the coins were listed as "Large S"; 42 were listed as "Small S".
