"Even though both dates are R1, there is a large difference between them. 1916-P is the second most common date while the 1916-S has about ¼ the certified population. This difference becomes important in MS 64 and above where there may not be enough nice specimens of the 1916-S to satisfy collector demand.

Both issues come fairly nice - with decent, but not very sharp strikes - and nice luster. The 1916-P's appearance is a bit more satiny, while the 1916-S tends to be a little brighter."<sup>1
