PCGS XF-45 (illustrated above).  Ex - Superior Stamp and Coin "Pre-Long Beach Sale" September 19-21, 1999, Lot 304, "Rarity 3- Extremely Fine-40...Weight 71.3 grains.  Very late die state, the cud break at GL of ENGLAND extending down inside the beaded circle" - Early American History Auctions, Inc.'s Mail Bid Sale, December 9, 2000, Lot 830, where it was described as follows: "1652 MA "Pine Tree" Shilling, Large Planchet Type, Noe-8, PCGS graded Extremely Fine-45.  Full weight at 71.1 grains. An extremely sharp, well struck example, considering being from the later state of the dies. Well centered, the surfaces are quite smooth and lustrous with excellent eye appeal and a pleasing silvery-gray natural coloration. The planchet is irregular at the bottom (as made and as struck), and most all legends and denticles present and full. The weight is that of a virtually full, heavy weight specimen considering that the current standard for consideration of being called full weight goes as low as 68 grains, 72 being 100% full. A lovely specimen of the Large Planchet type and worthy of placement into a high quality collection. Graded EF-45 by PCGS, it was also likely "net graded" from an even higher grade, considering the natural edge irregularity. The current, year 2000 GUIDEBOOK listing places a value of $5,500.00 on a coin of this type in EF-40; this coin is certainly and by far, superior."
