NGC MS-61 Brown (illustrated above).
EAHA 06/2004:883, $2,415.00
"VF20" (illustrated above). Ex - Superior Galleries' "Pre-Long Beach Coin Sale", May 27-29,
2001, Lot 1012, plated, where it was described as follows: "1787
Massachusetts Half Cent Ryder 2-A Rarity-3 VF20. Sharper by at least 10
points but there is a thin crack in the planchet from the rim below H
nearly reaching the knee and another from the rim between the T's in
MASSACHUSETTS, both as struck. These planchet cracks could easily be
confused with die cracks. Otherwise a couple tiny rim nicks are the only
marks. Glossy chocolate brown. Excellent eye appeal in spite of the
planchet flaws. Weight 79.1 grains."
Notes:
This was the only use of the obverse die. Attribution points: line
of arrow runs through the left side of the W (only obverses 1 and 2
share this characteristic). Arrowhead is misshaped.
The reverse die of this variety was also used on:
Ryder 2-A
Ryder 3-A
Ryder 5-A
Ryder 6-A
