Numismatic Auctions' November 1999 "Santa Clara" Sale, Lot
6901, "PCGS Proof-64...small lint mark (as struck) about the obverse
denticles near star 1 and a trivial nick on the point of Liberty's
neck. The diagnostic feature of this proof delivery is the excessive
die polishing that resulted in "floating" curls behind Liberty's
neck...", unsold. The pictures above and below are of the same coin,
illustrating how different photographic and lighting techniques can
produce entirely different images. In our opinion, the image
above is more attractive, but the image below is a more accurate representation of the actual coin.

together. Although Breen makes mention of an extremely rare 1879/8
overdate Eagle, his brief description does not seem to necessarily match
