Stack's "65th Anniversary Sale", October 17-19, 2000, Lot 1057,
not plated, sold for $345.00
Notes:
Though
1902 is a high mintage year, the three coins follow along the same pattern
as those of 1901.
1902-S is now seen to be much harder to
find than we once believed. This date shows up on almost everybody's want
list and is often one of the last dates to be filled in the set. Its
population is only one higher than the vaunted 1901-O, but it doesn't
command anywhere near the respect of the former. It comes with a nice strike
and luster and a very high number of MS 66 (9) and MS 67 (2) keep the price
of MS 65 coins far below what it should be."1
The finest example graded by
PCGS is a single MS-67.
